Since taking office in 2018, Dr. Abiy Ahmed has led Ethiopia through a profound transformation touching politics, the economy, security, and diplomacy. His leadership ushered in a new era of political freedom—releasing political prisoners, opening up the political landscape, and allowing independent media to operate freely. This sparked a level of freedom of expression previously unseen in Ethiopia.

On the economic front, Dr. Abiy implemented extensive reforms and opened the doors to investment. Major state enterprises like Ethio-Telecom began liberalization, and modern development projects such as “Beautifying Sheger” and the promotion of ICT and small industries were launched. He also earned the trust of global institutions like the IMF and World Bank.

His most tangible achievement is the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)—a project that secured national resource sovereignty, strengthened power generation, and became a symbol of national development.

Furthermore, his political philosophy of “Medemer”—which emphasizes unity and synergy—became the foundation of his governance.
